Diabetic Foot Assessments:
Early Detection for Lifelong Mobility

If you are living with diabetes, your feet need special care. A diabetic foot assessment helps detect early signs of nerve damage, circulation issues, or foot deformities. These checks are not only preventive, they can also help protect your long-term mobility and reduce the risk of complications that might otherwise go unnoticed.

At Provide Wellbeing, we offer in-depth diabetic foot assessments led by experienced podiatrists. These assessments are available to adults with Type 1, Type 2, or pre-diabetes, and anyone experiencing numbness, tingling, or difficulty examining their own feet.

These services are available via:

Why Foot Assessments Matter

Diabetes can affect nerves, circulation, and healing ability, making the feet especially vulnerable to injury and infection. Without regular checks, small issues can turn into serious complications like ulcers, infections, or even amputation.

A diabetic foot assessment supports early detection and helps you stay ahead of risks.

What to Expect in a Diabetic Foot Assessment

Your appointment includes a comprehensive review of your foot health.

Visual Inspection

We assess skin condition, colour, nail health, and check for corns, calluses, wounds, ulcers, or pressure areas. Foot shape is reviewed for deformities such as bunions or hammertoes.

Circulation Check

We palpate the key pulses in your feet, measure skin temperature, and use Doppler ultrasound when needed to evaluate blood flow. Any signs of poor circulation are noted for further action.

Neurological Testing

Using tools such as a 10g monofilament, tuning fork, and light touch tests, we check for early signs of neuropathy, which can impact sensation and increase injury risk.

Gait and Muscle Strength

We may observe how you walk and test muscle function to spot early motor nerve changes or imbalance that may put your foot health at risk.

Risk Classification

Based on the findings, your foot health will be categorised into a risk level. This helps guide your care plan and determine how often follow-ups are needed.

Prevention Is the Priority

Our podiatry team does more than assess. We educate you on:

  • Choosing well-fitting, protective footwear
  • Daily foot care routines
  • Recognising early signs of infection or injury
  • Managing other risk factors like smoking or high blood sugar

These strategies help prevent serious issues before they start.

Ongoing Monitoring

If you already have wounds, ulcers, or changes in foot shape or colour, regular follow-ups allow us to track healing and adjust care as needed.

We also monitor for serious conditions such as Charcot foot or signs of gangrene. Early detection allows for timely referral and intervention.

Who Should Book a Diabetic Foot Assessment?

You may benefit if you:

  • Have been recently diagnosed with diabetes
  • Notice tingling, numbness, or pain in your feet
  • Have a history of foot infections or slow-healing wounds
  • Have difficulty reaching or inspecting your feet
  • Have been advised by your GP or diabetic care team

You do not need a referral to book directly with Provide.

Why Early Assessment Makes a Difference

Many foot-related complications from diabetes begin silently. A professional diabetic foot assessment can catch these changes before they become emergencies.

With early support, you can stay mobile, independent, and confident in your foot health.

What Happens After Your Assessment

After your appointment:

  • You receive a clear explanation of your foot health and personal risk level
  • A care plan is developed to support prevention and ongoing wellbeing
  • Referrals are made if needed for specialist podiatry, vascular care, or diabetic services
  • You’ll leave knowing when your next check should be and what to do in between
