OUR AUTISM & ADHD SERVICES
Self-pay adult ADHD assessment
An ADHD assessment in adulthood can help explain long-standing difficulties with attention, organisation, impulsivity, or emotional regulation that may have been present since childhood.
At Provide Wellbeing, adult ADHD assessments are carried out by appropriately qualified clinical teams, following NICE guidance and recognised diagnostic standards.
Who this assessment is for
This assessment may be appropriate for adults who experience ongoing difficulties with:
- attention, focus, or concentration
- organisation, time management, or memory
- impulsivity or restlessness
- emotional regulation or stress tolerance
- work, study, or daily functioning
An assessment can help provide clarity and understanding, whether or not a diagnosis is made.
How this assessment can be accessed
We currently offer adult ADHD assessements through our private self-pay pathway. You can find out more about that pathway here: Self-Pay assessments.
Before the assessment
Referral and questionnaires
Once a referral is accepted (or a self-pay registration is confirmed), we will ask you to complete questionnaires to help us understand your experiences.
Please note that we cannot progress with an assessment until all questionnaires and forms have been completed, returned to us and triaged.
These may include:
- Self-report questionnaires
- parent, partner and family questionnaires
- Background and developmental history
- Information about education, work, and daily life
Returning these promptly helps avoid delays.
Clinical triage
Our clinical team reviews the information to:
- confirm that an adult ADHD assessment is appropriate
- consider whether other assessments (such as Autism) may be helpful
- plan the most suitable assessment approach
You’ll be contacted to confirm next steps.

Who you’ll see
Assessments are carried out by experienced clinicial teams, which may include:
- psychiatrists
- other appropriately trained healthcare professionals with expertise in ADHD
What the assessment involves
The assessment includes:
- A detailed discussion of current difficulties and their impact on daily life
- Exploration of childhood history, as ADHD begins in childhood
- Review of questionnaires and any supporting information
- Discussion of strengths, coping strategies, and challenges
Where appropriate, physical health information may also be reviewed.
Assessments are carried out in a supportive and respectful way.
Outcome and diagnosis
After the assessment:
- The clinical teams will explain the outcome clearly
- You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions
- If ADHD is diagnosed, this will be explained in clear, accessible language
If ADHD is not diagnosed, we will still offer guidance and signposting where helpful.
Written report
Following the assessment, you will receive a written diagnostic report.
The report includes:
- what was assessed and how
- the outcome or diagnosis
- how conclusions were reached
- recommendations and next steps
Reports are written in clear language and can be shared with your GP or other professionals (with your consent).
What happens after an adult ADHD diagnosis
Every assessment includes post-assessment guidance, regardless of outcome.
If ADHD is diagnosed, next steps may include:
Information and advice
- Understanding ADHD in adulthood
- Strategies to support daily functioning, work, or study
- Signposting to appropriate support services
Our diagnostic reports are recognised by employers and educational institutions.
Medication (where appropriate)
Medication is not automatic following an ADHD diagnosis.
If medication is considered:
- The clinician will discuss risks, benefits, and alternatives
- Medication is only offered where it is clinically appropriate
Ongoing prescribing and monitoring depend on:
- the pathway used
- local NHS arrangements regarding GP involvement and shared care agreements
