 What are Support and Guidance Sessions?

Support and Guidance Sessions are delivered by a qualified member of our neurodevelopmental team and focus on the autism- and ADHD-related areas that matter most to you and your family.

You can choose between four and eight topics that you would most like to explore, and our team will offer information, practical strategies, resources and signposting relevant to your circumstances.

The service includes three structured appointments:

  • two 30-minute Support and Guidance Sessions;
  • one 30-minute follow-up session.

You do not need a confirmed autism or ADHD diagnosis to access the service.

What will we discuss?

Topics may include:

  • Understanding autism and ADHD
  • Communication differences
  • Emotional regulation, distress and meltdowns
  • Sensory processing and reasonable adjustments
  • Routines, planning and executive functioning
  • Sleep and energy
  • School support and transitions
  • Self-esteem, identity and relationships

How the support package works

The three appointments usually take place over approximately six weeks, with around two weeks between each session.

Provide Wellbeing Choose Topics

1. Choose your priority topics
Before the first appointment, we will send you our Support and Guidance Topic Index.

You can choose up to eight subjects based on your family’s current needs and priorities.

Provide Wellbeing Attend 2 Tailored Sessions

2. Attend two tailored sessions
During two 30-minute appointments, the clinical member will explore your chosen topics with you.

You will receive practical advice, strategies, relevant resources and signposting that may help at home, in education and in everyday life.

Provide Wellbeing Review Progress Next Steps

3. Review progress and next steps

Your final 30-minute follow-up appointment gives you an opportunity to:

    • ask the clinical team any remaining questions;
    • complete your ‘What Helps Me’ document;
    • receive further signposting where appropriate.

If you feel that you would benefit from further support after completing the package, you can choose to book an additional 30-minute top-up session for an extra charge.

Following the package, you will be invited to complete a short feedback questionnaire.

Your “What Helps Me” document

As part of the sessions, we will support you to complete a personalised “What Helps Me” document.

This document can help you record your child or young person’s:

  • strengths;
  • communication preferences;
  • individual support needs;
  • possible triggers;
  • helpful strategies;
  • preferences at home, in education or in everyday life.

You may choose to share the document with schools, activity providers or other professionals involved in your child or young person’s support.

Testimonials

Support you can trust

Our team provides actionable insights, no matter where you are on your journey, and offers expert advice to help you or a family member on your road to a diagnosis. Our ASD and ADHD services are suitable for children and young people seeking a diagnosis.

NHS-funded services

Provide Wellbeing offers NHS-funded neurodevelopmental assessments through two pathways: NHS Right to Choose and NHS Essex ICB Framework.

NHS Essex ICB Framework

Provide Wellbeing is an approved provider on the NHS Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) Framework. This is a locally commissioned NHS pathway, which means it is only available to children, young people and adults who are registered with a GP in Essex and live in the local area.

Through this pathway, we offer:

  • Autism, ADHD and combined assessments for children and young people
  • Adult autism assessments

This pathway may be right for you if:

  • You want an NHS-funded assessment
  • You or your child/young person are registered with a GP in Essex
  • You or your child/young person live in Essex

If you want to follow this pathway, you can read more on the dedicated pages below:

Adult autism – NHS Essex ICB Framework
Autism assessments for adults.

NHS Right to Choose

Provide Wellbeing also offers NHS-funded assessments through the NHS Right to Choose pathway. Right to Choose is a national NHS pathway that allows eligible patients in England to ask their GP to refer them to a provider of their choice, where that provider holds a qualifying NHS contract and offers the appropriate service.

Through this pathway, we offer:

  • Autism, ADHD and combined assessments for children and young people
  • Adult autism assessments

This pathway may be right for you if:

  • You want an NHS-funded assessment
  • You or your child/young person are registered with a GP in England
  • You would like to be referred to Provide Wellbeing under Right to Choose

If you want to follow this pathway, you can read more on the dedicated pages below:

Autism, ADHD and combined assessments for children and young people through the national Right to Choose pathway.

Adult autism – NHS Right to Choose
Autism assessments for adults through the national Right to Choose pathway.

Self-pay assessments

We offer a range of self-pay assessments, including:

  • Autism, ADHD and combined assessments for children and young people
  • Virtual autism assessments for children and young people, where this is suitable for their needs
  • Autism assessments for adults

This pathway may be right for you if you:

  • Don’t want to wait for an NHS assessment
  • Are seeking an alternative to the NHS route or live outside of our current commissioned areas

Self-pay routes:

  • Do not require a GP referral
  • Are available for children, young people, and adults
  • Follow the same clinical standards and diagnostic guidance

Our self-pay service offers an integrated journey from assessment through to treatment and medication titration, where appropriate.

Still unsure?

If you need more information to help you make the right choice for you or your child/young person, you can:

If you’re still unsure, you can also speak to your GP or contact our team for general guidance.

NHS pathways are fully funded and are commissioned by the NHS.

NHS-funded access depends on:

  • Which Integrated Care Board (ICB) your GP belongs to, and
  • Which NHS contracts are currently live in that area.

Some NHS services are:

  • Local pathways (only open to patients with a GP and live in that area), or
  • Right to Choose pathway (a national NHS right, when contracts are in place).

How to use these services:
  • Right to Choose (England): To use this option for assessments (autism, ADHD and combined), a GP must formally refer you to a specific provider, even if you fill out the self-report forms.

NHS neurodevelopmental services are commissioned locally.

This means:

  • Your GP practice location and your home address, determines which NHS pathways you can use.
  • Some services are only available if your GP is based in a specific ICB area.
  • Even when a service is planned or “coming soon”, GPs can only refer once the NHS contract is fully live.

If you’re unsure which ICB your GP belongs to, your GP practice can confirm this for you.

Which route applies to me or my child/young person?

You can use this simple guide:

  • My GP is in an area where Provide Wellbeing has an active NHS contract
    You may be able to access our services through an NHS local pathway
  • My GP is in England and I want to use Right to Choose
    This is only possible once a Right to Choose contract is live in your area.
  • I want to access an assessment without waiting for NHS pathways
    A self-pay assessment may be an option.

Because availability changes over time, we always recommend checking the current pathway status before asking your GP to refer.

Autism, ADHD and combined assessments

  • Use recognised diagnostic frameworks (DSM-5 / ICD-11)
  • Are consistent with the standards used across our NHS services
