Microsuction is the safest and most comfortable method of ear wax removal and clearing blocked ears.

Provide Wellbeing’s Microsuction ear wax removal service offers a simple solution to clearing blocked ears. Symptoms associated with blocked ears can be disorientating and painful, which is why we provide quick and easy access to one of our experienced Ear Care specialists on our self-pay service. Our Microsuction appointments are available with Audiologists at clinics in HalsteadChelmsfordColchester, and Braintree, allowing you to select the most convenient venue for your care.

How can Microsuction help me?

Are you experiencing symptoms including ear ache, a reduction in your ability to hear, or a blocked feeling in your ear? If so, you may have a build-up of earwax, which can be removed through the process of Microsuction.

A blockage in the ear can be the result of many factors, including:

  • Incorrect use of cotton buds
  • Hearing aids which can prevent wax from coming out of the ear canal freely
  • Excessive use of ear phones

Even having hairy ears can be a contributing factor. If you have any of these indicators, it’s advisable to have your ears checked by a GP or Nurse to confirm that these symptoms are not caused by another condition. We would be happy to discuss this with you, so if you are unsure, give us a call before booking an appointment.

Microsuction is a method of ear wax removal that is clinically proven to be more effective than ear syringing. At your Microsuction appointment, our Audiologist will use a powerful microscope to see the build-up of wax or the presence of a foreign object in your ear which may be causing a blockage, and will remove earwax using a small, gentle suction tool.

“I’d been putting off going to my GP for a very long time but when my wife mentioned Provide Wellbeing and that I could get an appointment the same week I thought I might as well go for it. I’m so glad I did, Nicola was so knowledgeable and took the time to explain both the Microsuction procedure and my condition to me. Understanding why my ears give me so much trouble also put my mind at rest, which has made me a lot happier.”

Ryan, Colchester

Treatment Information

Unlike ear syringing, or ear irrigation, which causes the ear to get wet, Microsuction uses suction with pinpoint accuracy to extract the wax. It therefore offers a solution that is suitable for people who have previously had ear infections or a ruptured ear drum.

There are a few simple steps that we recommend before your appointment to maximise the effectiveness of your treatment. Although it is not essential to do so before your treatment, applying 1-2 drops of olive oil or ear drops in the affected ear/s, twice a day for up to 48 hours prior to your Microsuction appointment will help to make the procedure more comfortable. This also increases the likelihood that your Audiologist will be able to remove the softened wax.

The procedure causes minimal discomfort, as the suction used to remove the blockage of wax is very gentle. Our Microsuction appointments and the treatment are normally completed within 30 minutes. In rare cases a second visit may be required to allow remaining wax to soften for complete removal – this will be explained during your appointment by your clinician.

If you have any doubts or questions about ear cleaning or preparing for your appointment, these can be discussed at the time of booking.
