Julie Hutchings

Specialist Neurodevelopmental Consultant

With a career spanning over two decades, I bring a wealth of experience and passion for supporting children, young people, and families. I began my journey as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 1996, working in both community settings and a paediatric hospital. This foundation in nursing inspired me to pursue a specialization in school nursing, culminating in the completion of my degree and qualification as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. It was during this time that I developed a deep interest in neurodiversity and its impact on children and families.

Building on this passion, I transitioned into a role within a community paediatric service in the NHS, where I have been a Specialist ADHD Nurse for the past nine years. In this role, I have further honed my expertise, including training in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) for assessing children with potential autism spectrum conditions.

I am deeply committed to my work, finding fulfillment in supporting, assessing, and empowering children, young people, and their families to navigate the challenges they face and achieve their potential. My practice is rooted in empathy, understanding, and a dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of those I serve.

Occupational Therapist

I joined Wellbeing in 2018 as an Occupational Therapist. I have worked as an Occupational Therapist within the NHS for 32 years, working with children/young people of all ages who have a wide range of special educational and physical needs. I trained to administer the ADOS assessment over 10 years ago and during my time working with Provide CIC was a member of the multidisciplinary team which assessed and diagnosed children and young people who have ASD. I have undertaken many postgraduate courses in sensory processing which have enabled me to provide support and advice to children who have sensory processing difficulties associated with their diagnosis of ASD. I enjoy the variety of my role: although the assessment tool is the same, each child / young person I meet is different.
