Autism and ADHD Support and Guidance Sessions
Practical guidance shaped around you and your family
Our private Support and Guidance Sessions offer tailored information and practical strategies for parents, carers, children and young people. These sessions focus on the topics and everyday challenges that matter most to you and your family.
The Support and Guidance Sessions are available to all, whether or not your child or young person has received a diagnosis.

What are Support and Guidance Sessions?
Support and Guidance Sessions are delivered by a qualified member of our neurodevelopmental team and focus on the autism- and ADHD-related areas that matter most to you and your family.
You can choose between four and eight topics that you would like to explore, and our team will offer information, practical strategies, resources and signposting relevant to your circumstances.
The service includes three structured appointments:
- two 30-minute Support and Guidance Sessions;
- one 30-minute follow-up session.
Who are the sessions for?
The service may be helpful if you would like to:
- understand more about autism, ADHD or both;
- explore your child or young person’s individual strengths and needs;
- understand particular behaviours, thoughts or responses;
- recognise possible triggers and consider how to manage them;
- develop practical strategies for home, education and everyday life;
- build confidence in supporting your child or young person;
- understand what educational support may be available;
- communicate your child or young person’s needs more clearly to other people;
- consider your next steps and sources of further support.
What can we discuss?
Topics will include:
- Understanding autism and ADHD
- Communication differences
- Emotional regulation, distress and meltdowns
- Sensory processing and reasonable adjustments
- Routines, planning and executive functioning
- Sleep and energy
- School support and transitions
- Self-esteem, identity and relationships
How the support package works
The three appointments usually take place over approximately six weeks, with around two weeks between each session.

Before the first appointment, we will send you our Support and Guidance Topic Index. You can choose up to eight subjects based on your and your family’s current needs and priorities. |
- Attend two tailored sessions

During two 30-minute appointments, the clinical member will explore your chosen topics with you. You will receive practical advice, strategies, relevant resources and signposting that may help at home, in education and in everyday life. |
- Review progress and next steps

Your final 30-minute follow-up appointment gives you an opportunity to:

If you feel that you would benefit from further support after completing the package, you can choose to book an additional 30-minute top-up session for an extra charge.
Following the package, you will be invited to complete a short feedback questionnaire.
What is included?
Your Support and Guidance package includes:
- two 30-minute core Support and Guidance Sessions;
- one 30-minute follow-up session;
- discussion of up to eight topics selected by your family;
- tailored strategies, resources and appropriate signposting;
- support to complete a “What Helps Me” document.
Your “What Helps Me” document
As part of the sessions, we will support you to complete a personalised “What Helps Me” document.
This document can help you record your child or young person’s:
- strengths;
- communication preferences;
- individual support needs;
- possible triggers;
- helpful strategies;
- preferences at home, in education or in everyday life.
You may choose to share the document with schools, activity providers or other professionals involved in your child or young person’s support.

Virtual sessions
Virtual appointments take place securely through our video consultation system. We will provide you with the information and access you need before your appointment.
You will need:
- a laptop or tablet;
- a working camera and microphone;
- a reliable internet connection;
- a private space where you feel comfortable discussing your circumstances.
Both formats include the same number and length of appointments.
Please note: face-to-face and virtual packages are booked separately, so appointments cannot be combined across the two formats.

Please note: additional 30-minute Support and Guidance Sessions can only be booked after you have completed the full Support and Guidance package. They cannot be booked as standalone sessions.
Full payment is required when you book your Support and Guidance package.
When this service may not be appropriate
Support and Guidance Sessions are not an emergency, crisis or specialist psychiatric service. They are not suitable where:
- there is an immediate mental health crisis;
- active suicidal thoughts are present;
- an acute safeguarding concern requires statutory intervention;
- emergency medical care is required;
- specialist psychiatric treatment is indicated.
What the sessions do not include
Support and Guidance Sessions are designed to provide information, practical strategies and individualised guidance. They do not include:
- an autism or ADHD diagnostic assessment;
- a report;
- emergency or crisis support;
- specialist psychiatric treatment.
