At Provide Wellbeing, our experienced doctors will be able to diagnose whether you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at an initial assessment appointment, and will be able to offer treatment options which include splinting or injections for less severe cases, and/or an operation on your hand.

NHS Funding

Carpal Tunnel Decompression is also available for NHS referrals. If your symptoms are not severe, your GP may be able to treat you satisfactorily. If the cause of the symptoms is unclear or if the treatment is not appropriate or does not cure your symptoms, your GP may refer you to specialists such as those at our brand new Clinic Centre on The Crescent in Colchester, or at Valkyrie Surgery, Westcliff-on-Sea. You can request your GP to refer you to Provide Wellbeing specifically.

Private Medical Funding

If you have private medical insurance, Carpal Tunnel Decompression may be covered depending on your policy. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to see if this procedure is covered under your plan.

Personal Medical Loan

For those paying out of pocket, personal medical loans are an affordable way to spread the cost of treatment. While Provide Wellbeing does not have a specific partner for personal medical loans, Chrysalis Finance is a popular option. Benefits of personal medical loans include the ability to pay in instalments, low interest rates for qualifying individuals, and flexible repayment terms. Other providers like Hitachi or Shawbrook may also offer suitable finance options depending on your needs.

How can Carpal Tunnel Decompression help me?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition where the median nerve, which runs down the arm and into the hand, is compressed as it passes through a small tunnel at the wrist. This tunnel contains the nerve and the tendons that bend the fingers and thumbs. CTS can occur at any age and in both men and women, although it often affects women in middle age.

The main symptom of CTS is altered feeling in the hand, affecting the thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers. This feeling is frequently described as tingling, which is often worse at night or first thing in the morning. In early stages, numbness and tingling may be sporadic, but regular sensation in your hand will return to normal. If the condition worsens, the tingling and numbness can become continuous, alongside weakness and wasting of the muscles at the base of the thumb. Carpal Tunnel Decompression relieves these symptoms with a simple procedure.

Out of 316 Carpal Tunnel Decompression Surgery patient surveys returned since January 2023, 99.7% rated our service positively.

Treatment information

If surgery is required after your initial assessment, you can book a second 30-minute appointment for the procedure. You can decide on the timing based on your availability and recovery considerations.

Recovery Timeline

It typically takes about three months to regain full strength in the affected hand, but light activities can be performed as soon as the day of your procedure. Many patients can return to normal work within two weeks after the operation, though those with more physically demanding jobs may need to start gently and take longer to fully recover. Medical certificates can be provided at the time of surgery if required by your employer.

Nerve Conduction Studies

In some cases, a Nerve Conduction Study may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome before proceeding with surgery. These studies help assess the function of the median nerve and can be performed prior to treatment. Pricing for this will vary based on your choice of provider and location.

Our Process

Step 1 – Register with the clinic

Step 2 – Initial Assessment Session – 15 to 30 minute appointment

(Optional: Nerve Conduction Study if necessary to confirm Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)

Step 3 – Surgery – 30 minute booked appointment (no gowning and no need to be in a bed)

Step 4 – Follow-up Assessment (Self-Pay Only)

Separate physiotherapy sessions are not necessary with this type of procedure.
